Morning Star (Hope)
Morning Star (Hope) is an oil painting on stretched poly-cotton canvas, 80 x 137cm. The work depicts dense and heavy clouds that part to reveal two stars in the sky. Some viewers may be surprised to discover that this part is shaped like the silhouette of a woman!
Wisps of water vapour appear to float through evening light, dynamically shaped to suggest the face, torso and arms of a stretching or dancing woman.
The morning star (Venus) can be seen over the top of the woman’s heart - which is the lower of the two stars in the painting. Named after the Roman god of love, beauty and fertility, Venus has been represented as a woman within countless artworks across history. She is often associated with classical paintings of nudes. Within Morning Star (Hope) an absence in the clouds implies the figure of Venus - a void comprised of the open sky and it’s glittering stars.
This artwork was created in 2024 as part of Senbrun’s second solo exhibition, ‘Intuition Whispers Again' at Five Mile Radius, Highgate Hill QLD. For more information about this exhibition, click here.
